The problem is that the city is supposed to have three modes of operations: one in which the portal is hidden and there are no other portals to the city; one where a portal is visible and there is a bunch of portals, but no people or buildings in the city; and finally one where everything is visible and there are people and buildings in the city. So I made a Layer system that consists of a GameLayer and a MainLayer. The GameLayer is where the portal is visible and MainLayer is where the buildings and people are. The problem is that the GameLayer is where all the relevant things are, including the portal (although I could replace the GameLayer with MainLayer, the problem is that the portal is in MainLayer, and therefore the GameLayer is only visible in a small area of the MainLayer). What would be the best way to implement this? Do I need to make another layer, or would it be simpler to create a new View that would overlay on top of everything? A: What is the big deal with having a GameLayer and a MainLayer? You don't have to display the GameLayer and the MainLayer at the same time. You can display the GameLayer by overriding Layer.draw() and using a RenderTarget2D (see this SO answer for some more details). Your game will be displayed on a number of views (
